Flt Martin Withers DFC

Martin Withers flew the RAF Vulcan Bomber into world history when he flew Vulcan XM607 from Ascension Island to bomb the runway at Port Stanley in the Falkland islands, which had been invaded by Argentine Armed Forces. At the time this was the longest distance ever flown on a bombing mission, and needed the support of 11 Victor tanker aircraft.

Martin was awarded the DFC for the part he played in the recovery of the Falkland Islands.
