Avro Lancaster PA474 in 1960/70s

Avro Lancaster B.I, PA474 at RAF Waddington in the late 1960s/early 1970s.


The aircraft is in the wartime markings of a Lancaster of 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron, KM-B. The first Squadron to receive Lancasters in late 1941, early 1942, at RAF Waddington.


KM-B “Baker” was the aircraft of South African born Squadron Leader John Nettleton who was awarded the Victoria Cross following the low-level daylight raid on the the MAN U-boat engine plant in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany on 17th April 1942.


PA474 joined the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coltishall in 1973.
