Members' Day 2017 - A Word From the Chairman

I would like to apologize to the people who arrived at Coningsby today, not knowing that Members' Day had been cancelled. We advertised the cancellation on our website news page and on social media as soon as we were informed by BBMF.  We also endevoured to contact as many people as possible but, given the time limit involved and the vast amount of people to contact, it was never going to be 100% as we all have work commitments.  Having been at Coningsby this morning, I say thank you to everyone I spoke to, for your understanding and your generosity in donating your Members Day fees.  Should anyone wish to have a refund, please return your tickets to:

LLA, Unit 4 Wavell Drive Lincoln LN3 4PL.

If you were hoping to return your sold raffle draw tickets at Members' Day, we have extended the closing date to Wednesday 11th October, enabling you to return the ticket stubs.  The draw will take place at RAF Coningsby on Friday 13th.  OC BBMF Sqd Ldr Andy Millikin has kindly agreed to officiate.

NAM Aeroboot 006.JPGOur friends at the next Newark Air Museum will be staging their next Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Sale at the museum's site in eastern Nottinghamshire on Saturday 14th October 2017.  This charity fund raising event has attracted interest from a wide range of sellers and once again is heading towards being a sell-out event.

The funds that the museum raises from organising the event will be used to support the Project Panini (Mod) fund raising campaign to build new Café & Toilet facilities at the museum, which is located in eastern Nottinghamshire close to the Lincolnshire border.

Around 50 tables, featuring a host of different sellers, who come from around the UK will be arranged amongst the aircraft in Display Hangar 2 at the museum.

Buyers / visitors who attend this fund-raising event will have the opportunity to search through a varied selection of aviation and avionic items: including books, paintings, prints, DVDs, plastic kits, die-cast models, clothing, radio equipment and aircraft parts. Regular updates / seller's information are being posted on the news page of the museum website www.newarkairmuseum.org

LLA MEMBERS' DAY – OCTOBER 1st 2017 - CANCELLED

Sadly, the storm force winds forecast for Sunday, October 1st 2017, have forced the BBMF to cancel this year's LLA Members' Day.   We're sorry for the disappointment caused but the strong winds present an obvious safety issue.  It's simply not safe to open the hangar doors in such strong winds and it wouldn't be possible to accommodate such a large number of people inside the hangar, especially when the aircraft need to be indoors too.

Thank you to everyone who have kindly donated their Members' Day administration fees to the charity to help cover its administration costs.

If you have tickets and you would like a refund please return your tickets to:

Unit 4, Wavell Drive, Lincoln, LN3 4PL.

The BBMF statement said:

"It is with great regret that, due to the weather forecast for this Sunday (1st October), the 2017 LLA Members Day at BBMF has had to be cancelled. Expected conditions will mean that the aircraft will have to be inside the hangar, which is not large enough to contain the guests, aircraft and stalls.

We know that this is very disappointing for all concerned and hope those who were intending to attend will understand the circumstances that have led to this decision."

New Colour Schemes Announced for BBMF Lancaster

BBMF Lancaster PA474 will re-emerge from its winter overhaul in two different colour schemes.

OC BBMF, Sqn Ldr Andrew Millikin, has announced that the starboard side of the bomber will wear the markings of 50 Squadron's VN-T representing the Lancaster flown by his grandfather, Flying Officer Douglas Millikin DFC, on 27 of his first tour of 30 operations.

The port side will carry the markings of 460 (RAAF) Squadron's W5005 / AR-L.  Its nose art features a kangaroo playing bagpipes to recognise the Australian and Scottish heritage of its crew.
